I do wish we had found out what cured Chase -- I recognize that he wants to think of it as a miracle, but for me part of the pleasure of the show is the moment of the aha! when the cause of the patient's problem is discovered. In this case, I want to know if House knew the whole time and was waiting for something to happen, or if he gave himself the 12 weeks to figure it out. And I also want to know how the heck you cure a severed spine -- or was it a misdiagnosis somehow?
Well, I have no idea how one would cure a severed spine, mostly because it's not possible (as far as I know) and because I'm not a doctor. My theory was that House knew right away that the spine was not completely severed (perhaps this is why Chase was in more pain than would be expected, and also why House insisted on running a bazillion tests on him) but that it took House some time working over the twelve weeks to put together his solution. So when he bargains with Chase to wait for twelve weeks he's already suspicious and planning a search, and thus he keeps Chase out of his study and puts it all together and by the end of the twelve weeks he's figured whatever it is out. Originally I had a line in there about how House imported a technique of regrowing neural tissue that had been used successfuly on mice in France, but that is just me making up bogus science, and it wasn't even very convincing, so I cut it and decided to leave it all to the readers' imaginations. :)
Wonderful, illuminating, spot-on House characterization, and great sketches of everyone else, really engaging stuff.
I'm glad the characters rang true for you! Thanks for commenting.
